Day01 Chengdu - Qingcheng Shan - Dujiangyan L Early in the morning, meet the guide at your hotel, then transfer to Mt. Qingcheng. In Taoism mythology, it was the site of the Yellow Emperor's studies with Ning Fengzhi. As a centre of the Daoist religion it became host to many temples. Hike up to visit the Shangqing Temple and proceed to visit Laojunge Tower. Then hike to take the cable car down to the mountain foot. In the afternoon, transfer to Dujiangyan, visit the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, which was built around 250 BC by Li Bin, a governor of Shu Prefecture in Qin State. The great project still works well today after more than two thousand year’s function, which not only puts an end of the water disaster to the local people but also makes Chengdu Plain “the land of abundance”. While visiting the water conservation work, you may find that the methods of harnessing the river the ancient people used are so simple but useful. In 2000, Dujiangyan became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And we’ll also visit the Temple of Two Kings (Erwang Miao). Overnight at Holiday Inn Express Down Town Dujiangyan Day02 Dujiangyan - Chengdu BL The whole day, being the volunteer at the Dujiangyan Giant Panda Center. There we’ll clean up bamboos, pick up droppings, wash the enclosures, observe and understand the pandas’ status and living conditions. Then explore the panda rescue exhibition hall to hear about stories associated with panda rescues. And prepare food and make the “panda cake” for panda and also feed the pandas with their delicious “panda cake” and fruits. We’ll watch a documentary that shows scientific facts about pandas, to understand how humans protect them. In the afternoon, the experienced panda experts share their scientific knowledge with us. The instructor will lead us to visit the panda garden and we’ll see panda eating bamboo, sleeping or frolicking. Finally, the Dujiangyan Giant Panda Center will award us the certificate! After the volunteer activity ends, at around 16:00 p.m., transfer back to Chengdu.
