Mosuo people living in Wujiao Town are reserving the marriage of “Azhu”, which is more complete than the custom of “walking marriage” in Lugu Lake area. In some areas like Shuiluo Town, there is still the custom of “polyandry” and “polygyny”, for example, several brothers may share one wife, or several sisters may share one husband. According to the investigation of related experts, the unique custom of marriage existing in some closed regions of Shangri-la in Hengduan Mountain Chain, such as Lugu Lake, Grand Valley of Xianshui River, Wujiao Town and Shuiluo Town, is the reflection of female culture of ancient Dongnv State, rather than the reflection of a matriarchal society, because the matriarchal society is an early primitive society which is common in most nationalities of the world, while Dongnv State is a unique and rare state administrated by females. The female culture of Dongnv State reserved in Hengduan Mountain Chain of Sichuan is a proudful cultural resource.
As recorded in Tang History, Dongnv State is a state administrated by females. According to the investigation and study of Mr. Ren Xinjian, a Zang researcher, the area of Dongnv State mainly consists Danba, Daofu and Yajiang of Sichuan Province, that is, the large and small Jinchuan of Yalong River and Dadu River, with the capital in Danba. While his father—Ren Naiqiang, a famous historian, thinks the area of Dongnv State shall be larger, and the capital shall be Changdu by the side of Lanchang River.
