Panzhihua Sago Cycas National Nature Reserve covers an area of 1,358.3 hm². Panzhihua has the primitive Sago Cycas forest, as what we have known up till now, it is located at the highest latitude, with largest area, greatest number of trees, and most concentrated. It has survived more than 200 million years, known as “living fossil of gymnosperm”, and reputed as “Three Treasures of Sichuan” together with dinosaur and giant panda. Panzhihua Sago Cycas bloom every year, with pistillate and staminate blossoms contending in bizarrerie and beauty, presenting wonder in the world. It not only the best specimen for scientific and archaeological people, but also derives many mysterious, age old and magic legends.
At the western slope of Baguanhe and back mountain of Geliping that belong to the western region of Panzhihua, a natural rare Sago Cycas forest is distributed there. There are nearly 210 hm² of wild Sago Cycas forest, one of the world-famous “Three Treasures of Sichuan”, with about 120,000 trees in the town area of Geliping, which is the largest Sago Cycas forest in Asia.
