White Horse Spring Situated at the White Horse Temple in Shangli Town, Ya’an City, the White Horse Spring is the Key Cultural Relic under Province-level Protection and one of the Eight Great Tourist Attractions. There are poem lines depicting it in the Ya’an County Annuals: “White Horse Spring is a pilgrim Well” and “White Horse at the sacred spring neighed on the grass ”. Built earliest in the Tang Dynasty, the Spring was deified as sacred spring. At the bottom of the spring there are relief of a dragon and a horse and two characters—“Longdong”(Dragon Hole) carved on the huge stone. The spring stays at the constant temperature of 14℃ and the tiding is irregular(Sometimes several tiding a day while sometimes no tiding in several days). Water brims the pond when spring emerging and clearly meet the bottom with a sound like horse hoofs landing when tide ebbs. Tide in and tide out, spring emerges because of the siphon geographic phenomenon, which is the unique internittent spring in our country. |
