The West Holy Land-Lingquan Temple Established during the reign of the Kaihuang in Sui Dynasty (581-600 AD), Lingquan Temple with a history of more than 1400 years was firstly named Shengfo Temple as it is said to be the place where Kwan-yin converted to Buddhism. The Temple has been famous since Tang Dynasty, for it fostered a lot of talented monks, as a poem said, “Lingquan with thousand years history is a good place for religious ritual, its fame surpasses other the scenic spots since Tang Dynasty.” In the long history, the temple had its named changed for several times. Till the 3rd year’s of Emperor Xiao’s reign in Ming Dynasty (1490), thanks for the spring well on the top of the mountain which neither overflow nor dry up, and the water in it was sweet for drinking, the temple gained its present name “Lingquan Temple” meaning the temple with clear and sacred spring. |
