The Giant Buddha in Nanbu The Giant Buddha is located in Yuji Mountain in Beiyuan Village of Nanbu County. It is also called Yuji Mountain Moya Sculpture or the Nanbu Giant Buddha or the Beiyuan Giant Buddha. It was carved in the Northern Song Dynasty in the middle of the mountain with a height of 17.52 m. It is a standing statue of Sakyamuni with solemnity and kindness. During the Song and Ming Dynasties a storied tower was built to prevent it from wind and rain. But it is a pity that during the Cultural Revolution, the storied tower, couplets, inscriptions and carved stones were destroyed and there is only a shrine covering it now. The South Buddha is one of the ten giant Buddhas in Sichuan and also a cultural relic under province-level protection. |
