Qinghe Ancient Town The Qinghe Ancient Town is situated in the northeast of Sichuan Province, near the lofty Bashan Mountain in Dazhu County. Two clear rivers passed through it; hence it got its present name, which means Clear River. Qinghe is the hometown of Fan Shaozeng, the renowned patriotic general. The architecture compound in “General Street” boasts of a long history. It began to take shape in late Ming and early Qing Dynasties .In 1920 it was widened with a fund contributed by the local celebrities such as Fan Xianji. In 1931, Fan Shaozeng , the famous Kuomintang general in the Anti-Japanese War, brought back the design and sponsored its reconstruction which combined Greek and Chinese styles together. The Street covers an area of 3.3 hm² with a length of 385 m. All the buildings takes the traditional brick & wood structure with two floors and is featured by the tile-covered top, flying eaves, rafter-formed attic, tenon- pierced corridors. By both sides of the streets, there are 108 Greek style columns with carving of human figures, animals and flowers. The Dongliu River is murmuring in the east with the Yongping Bridge & the Shuanglong Bridge fly over it with novel and graceful design. The whole street was well arranged as a unity and presents its own unique style, which is unusual in the southwest of China. |
