Sanhui Ancient Town Setting on a huge rock (called by local people as the Shipan) at the converging point of three rivers, the Sanhui Ancient Town is famous in Dazhou with beautiful landscape. According to the local chronicles, it was initially built in Ming Dynasty, and with Dang, Ba, Qu three rivers jointing there, it was called Petty Chongqing because of its prospering trade. Once it was visited by a journalist who was deeply impressed by its beautiful scenery with many boats sailing in the rivers. On his departure, he gave it a pleasant name as the “town of boats”. The town has many interesting names for its streets and places e.g. Huiyuan, Haofang, Mayuan, Li’s Ancestral Temple, Yang’s Garden, Tianli Liangxin etc. Huiyuan used to be a haunting of some businessman and merchants; Haofang was for the travelers to have a rest and store their goods. |
