Old Plank Path in Bright Moon Valley The Old Plank Path, also called Gedao, is situated between the Bright Moon Valley and Qingfeng Valley in north and south Chaotian Town 25 kilometers away from Guangyuan. Bordering the east crags of Jialing River, overlooking the rapid currents, it winds along the cliffs and looks like a twisting dragon that intends to fly into the sky. It looks definitely spectacular. This area boasts of lofty mountains and rapid currents. Like a roaring dragon penetrating the rocks, Jialing River surges into the downstream. There are three stone caves in the cragged cliffs. People installed wooden girder and paved wooded road in the middle cave. Some wood boards are inserted into the cave at the bottom to hold the girders in the middle cave and some other wood blocks are inserted into the cave at the top to hold the boards used as flashing. Built in the late Spring & Autumn Period, the old plank path in the valley was utilized in Qin and Han Dynasty and was further developed during Three Kingdoms Period. It had been repaired and ruined in the past dynasties. It is the oldest plank path and also the planked path with the longest using time. |
